Spirulina extract has a dampering effect for enterovirus and influenza virus. Spirulina extract has the effect of protecting cells from the enterovirus 71 which is the main cause of hand foot and mouth disease amongst infants. It also has an excellent effect in prevention of infestation of virus cells and can slow down virus replication. These results were published in the renowned virus medical journals internationally [Journal of Medical Virology 2003; 70:119-125].
Cell experiment
Spirulina extract has inhibiting effects for Type A H1N1 and H3N2 viruses, B virus, Tamiflu resistant viruses, and the 2009 H1N1 flu virus.
